I am so pleased with the accomplishments of this past year here at the Museum. The new year of 2014 presents the SDSRM with new opportunities and a continued progression in the education and enrichment of members and visitors alike.
The South Dakota State Railroad Museum provides a venue that gives us the opportunity to preserve, promote, and experience South Dakota’s unique railroad legacy. The Museum is the primary advocate and physical home for our state’s railroading history, education, culture, and offers a window to its dynamic future. Your membership support right now is critical in planning for our new 2014 exhibits and operations. 2014 will also mark the debut of the SDSRM’s Railroad Activity Guide (Grades K, 4, 7, & 11) in South Dakota’s schools and on our web site. Of course, to achieve that we need your support in membership. Museum membership comes with unique benefits. In addition to free admission all year long, members at the basic levels can enjoy our in-Museum programs, special events, and email updates. Please review the membership levels on the Museum membership page of the Museum’s web site at www.sdsrm.org. To many of you the end of the year is also a time when you decide which organizations you will support. I humbly ask that you consider adding us to your list when you or your business make a year-end, tax-deductible gift. Your participation is key. Please consider sending in your 2014 payment as soon as possible. I thank you in advance for your participation, and thank you for your consideration. My best wishes to you and yours for the coming year! Rick Mills, Museum Director HIGH GREEN TO HURON – A Canadian Pacific/Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern freight (Rapid City to Huron) pounds the diamond as it crosses the BNSF’s ex- Milwaukee Road Aberdeen to Mitchell line at Wolsey. This lengthy eastbound consisting of grain, cement, and bentonite loads is led by two rebuilt Iowa, Chicago and Eastern SD40-3s. “Back Again – Great Displays!” “It’s a fantastic Timeline” “Wow, the model train layout is great” “Dad worked for the Milwaukee Road for 54 years – what memories!” “Our kids loved it” Those are not my words, but the comments from a few of our 2012 Museum visitors.
